Jakarta

It took up to a month to repair the Marine Cable Communication System (SKKL) Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan (Jasuka) who made the service IndiHome and Telkomsel down on Sunday (19/9).

Telkom revealed that the month was used to repair the Jasuka submarine cable so that it could be reused before.

“For the repair of the submarine cable which is the source of the disturbance, Telkom will immediately make the connection of the submarine cable which is preceded by various preparations, such as the cableship which will be operated towards the point of disturbance,” said Telkom’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Pujo Pramono, Thursday (23/9/2021).

“To do the connection, prepare the equipment, and the necessary completeness and no less important is the application for a permit for the repair work,” he added.

It is not known exactly what causes the disturbance that occurs in the Jasuka submarine cable the. Telkom said that currently the disturbance was identified as originating from a point about 1.5 kilometers off the coast of Batam at a depth of 20 meters below sea level.

“By knowing the point of disturbance, we immediately prepare repair efforts so that the infrastructure can function normally as soon as possible,” he explained.

Jasuka submarine cable is an optical fiber that stretches along 10,860 kilometers connecting Bandar Lampung, Batam, Baturaja, Dumai, Jakarta, Jambi, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Pontianak, Rantu Prapat, Sibolga, Tanjung Pakis, Tanjung Pandan, Tebing Tinggi, and Bandar Bukit Tinggi which is in Malaysia.

As long as repairs and internet services continue, Telkom will rerouting traffic as an alternative communication route to Batam, including adding the capacity of several links in Indonesia, such as from Papua, Kalimantan and Java and optimizing international gateways in Manado.
