This is the new library in the old post office in Utrecht

After almost two years of renovation, it will be ready on Friday: the new library in Utrecht in the former post office on Neude. On Friday the building will be open to the public, today the press was allowed to look around.

“You used to come here for your stamp and that was very impressive,” says employee Corien van Moorsel in the enormous hall RTV Utrecht. “But now it’s a library.” Little has changed in the large hall of the former post office. There are now books on the sides. Where the post offices of the post office used to be, now there are magazines in racks.

You will find the youth department on the first floor of the building. The large statue of Nijntje has been moved from the previous location on the Oudegracht. “To the delight of the children,” says Van Moorsel.

People are still working throughout the building to get everything done on time. The library will be opened on Friday by Princess Laurentien. “I hope that the people of Utrecht come to see what it looks like en masse,” says director Ton van Vlimmeren. “And that it becomes a well-used place. That’s what we make it for.”
