This is the figure behind the use of ‘Low Budget’ VAR in the West 3 League

Bandung

Use Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the game League 3 West Java is a discussion. This is the figure who had the idea. Who?

It turns out that in Indonesia, VAR has also begun to be applied to football matches. As in the West Bandung Regency derby match in League 3 Series 2 which brought together Persikabbar vs West Bandung United, at Sabilulungan Field, Bandung Regency.

So who is the person behind the decision to use ‘Low Budget’ VAR in Liga 3 Series 2? It turned out that the figure of Doni Setiabudi was the initiator of the use of VAR which later went viral on social media.

The man who is familiarly called Kang Jalu said the decision to apply VAR in the match was taken when he was appointed as Person in Charge (PIC) for Liga 3 Series 2 by Asprov PSSI West Java.

“I said I agreed to be the PIC, but I asked for the use of technology in this case VAR or visual replay in our language. The reason is that I often see unpleasant events in League 3, when many referees were chased and then beaten when there was a controversial decision,” said Jalu when contacted by detikcom, Thursday (20/1/2022).

VAR ‘Low Budget’ in Liga 3 Series 2 began to be applied in the round of 16 which imposed a knockout system which was initiated by the match between Persikabbar vs West Bandung United.

“From the last 16 until the final we use VAR because usually there is more controversy. So it can help the referee make decisions that do not harm both teams,” said Jalu.

For example, in the Persikabbar vs West Bandung United match, there were two crucial moments that risked triggering the anger of players, coaches, and supporters if the referee made the wrong decision.

“In yesterday’s match there were two moments, namely handball when it was seen by VAR it was not (handball), then there was elbowing of the players. Thank God the results were pretty good, there were no excessive protests because the team was more accepting and more confident because it can be proven directly on the replay, ” said Jalu.

Jalu, who is also the CEO of the Bandung Premiere League (BPL), has apparently implemented VAR technology in the competitions he manages. So that he understands very well how the technical implementation of VAR in matches, including by the match equipment.

“It so happened that the referee at BPL became the referee at the BPL League 3 series 2 too, so they already understand how it’s used, plus there’s an IT team from us who helps the referee broadcast the replay. Starting from replay, zooming, viewing frame by frame, to slow motion, it is very helpful because we are very used to it,” said Jalu.
