This is the appearance of sunspots, the first record of the world’s largest solar telescope

New images from the world’s largest solar laboratory have been released. This laboratory is called the Daniel K. Inoue Solar Telescope, which is located on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Scientists took the image on January 28, 2020, but it has only recently been released to the public. The giant sunspot in the center of the photo below is about 10,000 kilometers wide.

Scientists say SunspotsThe earth is large enough to hold a little space in it. The National Science Foundation owns a telescope and released the image Friday with a video of the sun. According to researchers, sunspot imagery has about 2.5 times more spatial resolution than previously achieved.

That resolution allows the image to show the magnetic structure at a distance of 20 kilometers from the sun’s surface. The project scientists pointed out that this image is not the same sunspot that is now visible to the naked eye in the sun.

The striped appearance in the middle of the dark sun spots shows how hot and cold gas moves out of the dark and in the middle, sculpted by the meeting of strong magnetic fields and hot gas rising from below. Dark sun spots are cooler than the area around the sun, but still warmer than 7500 degrees Fahrenheit.
