What is a Samsung Galaxy Smart Tag?

Galaxy Smart Tags only work in combination with Samsung smartphones or tablets on which the SmartThings app is running. A Samsung account, with which you log into the app, is always required for use. Smartphones from other manufacturers are at least not compatible with smart tags yet.
How are smart tags configured?
- First of all, make sure you have WiFi and Bluetooth enabled on your Samsung smartphone or tablet.
- Start the SmartThings app and tap the plus symbol (+) in the upper right corner.
- Then select ” Appareil> Tag / Tracker> Galaxy Smart Tag« .
- Now press the button of your smart tag as shown on the screen, then follow the additional on-screen instructions.
- After the beacon is set up and saved in the Samsung account, you need to give it a name.
How does tracking work with the smart tag?
Once the smart tag is configured, you need to enable it for the SmartThings Find feature. To do this, it is necessary, among other things, to grant the application the necessary permissions for tracking the position of the smartphone or tablet.
You can then select the Smart Tag under its name in the app and view its last known position on the map. If it’s nearby, you can either navigate your smartphone to the exact location or let the day ring.
What happens if the Smart Tag is too far away for Bluetooth?
If you have lost the active beacon somewhere and you are no longer within 120 meters of the BLE signal, you can still find it. The Smart Tag can also be tracked by other Samsung smartphones and tablets with the SmartThings app enabled.

The respective devices even automatically pick up its signal as soon as they are within range and transmit it to you via the app. The owners of the other devices don’t even notice it. Since the Smart Tag is registered to your Samsung account and the signal is transmitted in encrypted form, only you can see the position in the SmartThings app.
Can the smart tag also find the smartphone?
Tracking with Galaxy Smart Tags also works the other way around. If you want, you can schedule a day for it to ring your smartphone by holding down the button for a long time.
