The police arrested thirty people during the evacuation of a university building in the center of Amsterdam. That’s what the police write down Twitter.

Dozens of students entered the Binnengasthuis of the University of Amsterdam this afternoon. They then occupied the building and demanded that the institution stop working with oil giant Shell and other parties in the fossil fuel industry.

At around 8:30 p.m., the evacuation of the building began by order of the Public Prosecution Service. The mobile unit was deployed.

The activists included University Rebellion UvA, End Fossil Occupy NL and squatters’ organization Mokum Kraakt.

The University of Amsterdam said it understands the concerns of the demonstrators. President of the Executive Board Ten Dam emphasized that he was not against protesting and demonstrating. “But don’t occupy,” says Ten Dam. The university has filed a report.

Earlier in the day, a representative of the institution spoke with the activists. The university says it does not promote the use of fossil fuels and says it does not conduct research into fossil fuels.
