Another journalist has been shot dead in Mexico. Lourdes Maldonado López was found dead in her car in the northern Mexican border city of Tijuana yesterday. She is the third journalist to be killed in Mexico this month — and the second in Tijuana in a week.
Maldonado gained some notoriety in 2019 when she called attention to her situation at a press conference by President López Obrador. She said her life was in danger because of a long-running conflict with a media company owned by businessman and media mogul Jaime Bonilla.
Bonilla is a party member of the president and was briefly governor of the state of Baja California. Maldonado says she was unfairly fired by his media company and is seeking damages. She recently reported that she was in the right after nine years of litigation.
