This decision consists of the application of booster doses in the population aged 12 to 17 years in the country with Pfizer vaccines. “With this we would complete the entire susceptible population with reinforcement. Therefore, it is important that we make this offer and effective communication so that the population can access it”he stated.

In this regard, the head of the Health portfolio indicated that 80 million applied doses and 10 million reinforcements have been completed. “We have been observing that there is a significant reduction in the speed of vaccination and on top of that is the need to continue and grow in the Plan”the minister mentioned.

On the other hand, called on the territorial entities to upload the information to the system and thus have complete clarity on the dose application indicators and other aspects of the progress of the National Vaccination Plan (PNV).

“In some departments we have vaccines that, for some reason, have not been reported. It is important that all departments carry out this exercise, because with the daily count and application, there is a possibility that there are vaccines that have not been reported, for which it is important to carry out this count and be clear about it”, maintained the minister.

This is how the booster doses will be applied

Gerson Bermont, director of Promotion and Prevention of the Ministry, explained that Starting next Monday, March 28, this population group will be able to access the reinforcement against covid-19, exclusively with the Pfizer laboratory vaccine. The biologicals will be applied four months after completing the initial vaccination scheme against covid-19.

“We are reassured by what has happened in other countries in applying booster doses”Bernmont said.

On the other hand, he highlighted that as soon as the Vaccination Plan advances, 82.4% of the population already has first doses, 67.8% with complete schedules and 35.8% of citizens with booster doses, although in the denominator of reinforcement doses will increase, since the population of 12-17 years will enter.

Similarly, he highlighted that in those over 18 years of age, the booster dose may be with any vaccine, through heterologous vaccination. Faced with this, the official recalled that, as the Epidemiology Directorate has said at the time, with Ómicron pediatric hospitalizations increased. “Being in hospital, of course, there is a risk of death”assured.

Therefore, with the booster dose, “We must seek well-being and tranquility in the school environment”highlighted Bermont, mentioning that to make this decision, all the meetings were held and there was a consensus of experts. “We met with pediatricians, immunologists for strategic advice on vaccination in this population.”

Similarly, the director pointed out that the Pfizer vaccine is safe and effective to apply the booster dose “And it maintains immunity in this population.”
