The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Fernando Ruiz Gómez, announced this Thursday that the Advisory Committee of the Ministry regarding vaccination against covid-19 in the country approved the application of a third dose for people over 70 years of age without any conditions. .
“The Advisory Committee approves the application of a third dose or booster dose for the Colombian population 70 years and older who have already received two doses of vaccine, starting six months after the second vaccine application”, stated the Minister in a video posted on social networks.
“This booster may be applied by EPS, IPS and territorial entities with the same biological agent as the two previous doses or with a different vaccine from the messenger RNA platform corresponding to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. This will be done starting six months after the last dose and this operation will begin on October 1, “he added.
It is worth mentioning that the booster dose had already been approved for the population with transplants (heart, lung, kidney, intestine, pancreas, liver and bone marrow after two years of receiving the organ); patients with leukemia, myeloma and lymphoma undergoing chemotherapy treatment; patients with myelodysplastic syndrome; patients with autoimmune diseases who are supplied with drugs; and patients with primary immunodeficiencies.

In his video message, Ruiz Gómez also commented that the Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Health determined that Colombians over 18 years of age will be immunized with the Janssen, AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines, while the 12 to 17-year-old population will receive the biologicals. from Pfizer and Moderna, the latter when it receives authorization from Invima for its application in children under 18 years of age.
Regarding the vaccination of the inhabitants of remote and highly dispersed areas in Colombia, it was decided to use the Janssen biological for this purpose.
Finally, the Minister pointed out that the provision to apply the second dose of the Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines will be maintained 84 days after receiving the first, unless the citizen has any particular condition, for which he may request the application of your second dose in the range of 28 to 84 days.
