Thionville. The demolition of the Bécasse tower is finally planned for the end of 2023

On July 21, we relayed the despair of a resident of the Bécasse tower, in the Côte des Roses – Bel-Air district, between the intrusion of rats, the presence of squatters and incivility. This Wednesday, August 3, a meeting between the tenants of the building and Moselis was held, in the premises of the social landlord in Thionville. One point stands out from this meeting: “The acceleration of the schedule for demolition of the Bécasse”, according to the general manager of Moselis, Eric Michel. The objective is to start work as quickly as possible. In a press release from the social landlord, it is stipulated: “The tower is intended to be demolished with the start of work planned for January 2023.

Outcome planned for the end of 2023

The building is part of a large work plan in the Côte des Roses – Bel-Air district, as part of the New National Program for Urban Renewal. The destruction of the Bécasse tower was scheduled for the summer of 2024. From now on, Moselis plans to demolish it for the end of 2023, six months in advance. “We want to speed up the relocation of tenants. After the departure of the latter, we will make a diagnosis of asbestos removal, then we do the work, ”explains the general manager. Regarding the squatters, Eric Michel says he is waiting for a legal response. “We are dependent on the delays in returning justice. The court order has been pending for many weeks. It is the only authority allowing us to organize, with the public forces, a legal expulsion. »
