The immense variety of waves emanating from stars cannot be limited by the visible spectrum, nor by the infrared, much less by X-rays. It is worth accelerating some of these waves a little to make them perceptible to human ears, something that has Proven the Starsounds project by recording a snippet of what could be a stellar symphony.

For RT

British composer and music producer Brian Eno arranged sound waves from the library of spatial sounds collected over a decade ago by the Armenian-Spanish astrophysicist Garik Israelian. Added to this soundtrack is a visualization inspired by synchronized observations of the Sun by Paul Franklin and Oliver James of leading visual effects studio DNEG.

The result of this mix of contributions is a video that the organization of the international Starmus festival has published this week on its YouTube account. It seems to have been taken from a science fiction movie, but it represents much more authentic vibrations than you might imagine.

As recalled by the IFL Science website, astronomers record these vibrations not only to make music, as Israelian proposed, but they transport them to the acoustic record and study them to draw conclusions about the size, age, and internal structures of stars in very similar way to how geologists measure the Earth’s interior from seismic waves and earthquakes.
