They send over 175 checks signed by Disney and Mickey Mouse

The Rhode Island government mistakenly sent more than 175 tax return checks “signed” by Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse in lieu of the state treasurer and controller.

The Rhode Island Tax Division uses the Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse signatures on test documents, but they were mistakenly printed on the actual checks sent Monday, a spokesperson told WPRI-TV television.

“No other signatures were printed other than those two,” said Jade Borgeson, chief dispatcher at the Fiscal Department, which includes the tax division. Mickey Mouse is the cartoon character who was the first big hit for illustrator and producer Walt Disney.

Most of the checks were for the reimbursement of taxes paid by companies, WJAR-TV reported.

The tax division canceled the checks and will issue new ones signed by Treasurer General Seth Magaziner and state comptroller Peter Keenan in a matter of a week, Borgeson said.
