They request blood and platelet donors for a 1-year-old baby diagnosed with leukemia

The Aroca Bennazar family cried out for the help of anyone capable of donating blood and platelets for one of their two children, Diego, who is only 1 year and a half old.

Recently, Diego was diagnosed with leukemia and will undergo a treatment that will require donors with type B+, B-, AB+, AB- blood for several months.

Leukemia is a cancer of the blood-forming tissues that can affect the bone marrow, as well as the lymphatic system, according to the Mayo Clinic portal. The disease has different types and some affect more pediatric patients than adults.

Diego’s mother Alexandra Bennazar, and your dad, Jose Aroca, explained that donations must be received for a whole month, the duration of the treatment, so they asked citizens to go to the Medical Center’s Blood Center to help their son have quality of life.

“It has been very difficult to find platelet donors compatible with Diego”, they manifested. Parents started a social media movement under #PorDiego.

Donors must go to the Blood Center of the Medical Center by appointment and communicate that their donation will be for the patient Diego Aroca Bennazar, with patient number MR2857186.

To donate people must:

Weigh 130 pounds or more.

Make an appointment by sending a text message or WhatsApp to Juan Bennazar (787) 245-0812.

Do not take aspirin for 24 hours prior to donation. If you are taking antibiotics, you will need to wait up to 72 hours after taking the medication before you can donate.

No tattoos or piercings in the past three months.

Do not consume alcohol or cannabis in a period of 24 hours prior to donation.

Drink plenty of water before donating.
