They regulate a social protection floor for those who earn less than the minimum

The Ministry of Labor issued the decree that created a social protection floor for all Colombians who earn less than a minimum wage, which stands at $ 980,657 including the transportation subsidy.

The mechanism will have workers linked on a mandatory and voluntary basis. In the first case, it will be the workers and contractors who, as a result of their part-time dedication, receive an income of less than 1 monthly minimum wage. In the case of the second, those who do not have a labor or contractual relationship who earn an income of less than 1 minimum monthly wage, including producers in the agricultural sector, may do so.

The contribution must be made monthly by the employer or contractor, as appropriate, and may be made at any time during the month in which the activity takes place. The amount that will be in charge of the employer or contractor will be equivalent to 15% of the beneficiary’s monthly income in the period in which the contribution is made, a value that will be additional to the amount agreed to be paid for the development of the activity. When segmenting, 14 of these points will be sent to the BEPS and the remaining will be destined to the Occupational Risk Insurers.

BEP to the program

Since its creation in 2013 to date, the Periodic Economic Benefits program, administered by the Colombian Pension Administration (Colpensiones), has benefited 622 thousand savers throughout the national territory. This was stated by the Minister of Labor, Ángel Custodio Cabrera, during the installation of a virtual conversation.

“The economic benefits of BEPS are key for Colombians. Today we have about 622 thousand savers in this program and we will continue to increase to increase that number, ”added Cabrera.

According to the head of the Labor portfolio, of that figure 67% corresponds to women and 37% to men. In addition, 26% of the beneficiaries are in rural areas, while 10% live in municipalities with special regimes due to the peace agreement.
