The head of the Foreign Ministry spoke about how he managed to convince “Eurosceptics” to support the status of a candidate for EU membership for Ukraine.

Four months ago, Ukraine “didn’t even have a European perspective,” and a week ago, “everything was rather shaky, but they put pressure on it, tightened it up and convinced me.” The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba spoke about this on the air of the telethon on Thursday, June 23.

“The list of skeptics was well known for a long time: they were the Netherlands, and Denmark, Sweden, Portugal – they had certain visions. Germany was in this camp … A very important role [в предоставлении статуса кандидата] played by French President Emmanuel Macron. This decision was made during the French presidency,” Kuleba said, adding that there was a principled position – to do it right now.

As a reminder, tonight the European Council granted candidate status to Ukraine for entry into the European Union.

It was also reported that in the EU promised to immediately begin preparations to the integration of Ukraine.
