The Washington Nationals considerably increased their bid for the star Dominican outfielder John Soto. The cast of the capital from the United States is willing to make the Caribbean player the second highest paid player in the history of the Major Leagues, only behind his colleague from Los Angeles Mike Trout.
Journalist Hector Gomez gave the scoop, on Thursday, through his account Twitter.
The reporter explained that the negotiations are intensifying. If it materializes, the native of Santo Domingo would be securing 425 million dollars for the next 13 seasons, starting in 2023. If the patrolman accepts the offer, he would be becoming the 2nd highest paid player in all of history.
The ranger would be receiving, on average, 33 million dollars a year and would be destroying all the rumors of change that have been circulating around him.
The Washington Post confirmed the species revealed by Gómez, but they were unable to validate whether what Juan Soto would receive is correct.
What is certain is that Trout is the highest-paid player in history with a 12-year, $426.5 million guaranteed contract. Your colleague Mookie Betts follows him in the list with 365 million. That agreement was extended in 2020 when it earned $27 million, so in total, the Dodgers outfielder will earn $392 million between 2020 and 2032.
