Without the need to unite sperm and egg, a group of scientists has achieved what seemed impossible: create a model of a human embryo. It sounds like science fiction, but it is already a reality, thanks to the work of Monash University researchers. And they have done it using the skin, extracting and programming stem cells. Those responsible for the study assure that “it is not about creating life”, but about continuing to advance in fields still unexplored. Thanks to this model, they could answer many questions about infertility or miscarriages. Studies that are usually done with animals, given the shortage of human embryos. An advance that comes with controversy. For many it could be an open door to cloning, but researchers insist they are not real embryos. They neither grow, nor will they become future babies. They only reach 14 days of life from fertilization, although they are already considering extending that limit.
