A person in New York met the criteria for sending samples to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
A person in New York City has been identified for the new coronavirus test, city health officials said in a statement.
This means that the person had recently traveled from China and there were symptoms of fever and cough or shortness of breath without another common cause, such as influenza and other cold viruses, identified in the tests.
The individual, who is under 40, has been hospitalized at NYC Health + Hospital / Bellevue and is in stable condition.
The tests to determine if this is a confirmed case of the new Coronavirus will take a minimum of 36-48 hours and depend on the testing capacity of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
“A person with a history of travel to China felt bad and sought help from a medical provider who quickly contacted the Department of Health. This is exactly what we prepare for and we thank everyone for taking all the right steps. ” said the Health Commissioner, Dr. Oxiris Barbot.
“The reports of the first person being tested in New York City show that the system works as planned,” Barbot said.
The mayor of New York Bill de Blasio he said at a press conference on Saturday that the sick person did what the health authorities ask presenting the symptoms of coronavirus, which are similar to those of a cold or the flu.
