About 450 donations a day is what is required in Castile and Leon to meet the needs of blood derivatives used in health care activities, a fact that is often repeated but reflects the importance of the solidarity of donors in the Community and the need to have their commitment and to add new altruistic volunteers: donors save thousands of lives.
In the same way that this situation is known, it is no less so that blood donation is influenced by the ordinary calendar and that certain times of the year, especially linked to festive periods, suppose a decrease in the influx of donors.
Traditionally, the dates of Holy Week record this reduction in the number of donors who come to the collection points, a situation that contrasts with the healthcare demand for blood products, which is maintained.
Therefore, once again and in light of these forecasts, the Hemotherapy and Hemodonation Center of Castilla y León makes an appeal to donors from the Community and to Castilian and Leonese society in general, to bear in mind the importance of donating blood and the importance of this activity being carried out on a regular basis, without waiting for urgent appeals or other circumstances punctual.
In line with its annual campaign ‘Always prepared’, the CHEMCyL and the brotherhoods emphasize the need to maintain the most constant rhythm possible in donations, so as to guarantee that the health system has sufficient reserves with which to meet the demands for blood components of the group that may be.
To this end, the Hemotherapy and Hemodonation Center will be present, through its mobile donation units, in central points and referent citizens of Castilian and Leonese capitals.
Thus, the buses of Dona Sangre Castilla y León will be located in the following locations: Saturday, March 27, at Zamora (entrance to the Parque de la Marina, between 8.30 and 14.15 h) and at Segovia (Plaza del Cristo del Mercado, from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m.); Monday 29, in Valladolid (Plaza de San Pablo, from 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3.30 p.m. to 9 p.m.); Tuesday, 30, at Salamanca (Plaza de los Bandos, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and in Valladolid (Barrio de Parquesol, C / de Manuel Silvela, next to Parque del Reloj, from 8.30 am to 2 pm and from 3.30 pm to 9 pm); and on March 31, in Lion (Plaza de San Marcelo, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7.45 p.m.).

Donation is an absolutely safe process in which only health personnel are involved, -who knows perfectly the precautionary measures to take in the current context due to COVID-19, to ensure the greatest safety of both donors and healthcare professionals- and altruistic and healthy people.
For those people who have never donated and want to join this altruistic and voluntary movement, remember that the act of donation is a quick and simple process, in which sterile and disposable material is used, the following being conditions to be a donor: enjoy in good health, over eighteen years of age, weighing at least 50 kg and not suffering from or having suffered from diseases transmitted by blood.
It is also important to remember that you should not donate on an empty stomach or after a copious meal and that you must go with your ID or any other official accrediting document.
