Sue Martin had already said goodbye to tears her husband thinking he was dying. And his two daughters had also gone to the hospital to see their dad for the last time, who had been attached to the ventilator for 61 days because of the Coronavirus. The doctors had given him zero chance of survival. But the story had an unexpected twist. Within hours, a miraculous recovery literally brought Mal back to life.

His wife, 49, from Cardiff in the Wales, she had told her sad story on the radio and had broken the hearts of Radio 4 listeners in April, when she revealed that she had been given 10 minutes to say a moving final farewell to Mal, 58 years old. Their two sons Hana, 16 and William, 13, promised to make him proud as they said what they believed were their last words to their father. The family had already prepared everything for the funeral.

Mal fighter spent 61 days on a ventilator while battling the virus, but doctors managed to wean him from the car and made a miraculous recovery. Now Sue has revealed on Radio 4’s Today program that her husband will be returning home in a few days.

«Everything is going well, getting stronger every day, now he can walk short distances without help. «He has difficulty doing some things because his fingers are wrinkled because of the medicines they gave him to keep him alive, but it’s a small price to pay». Unfortunately for Mal, some fingers will have to be amputated and may always suffer from breathlessness or need long-term dialysis. But the family is optimistic. “After this miraculous recovery, who knows maybe he will be able to overcome this too,” said his wife.
