They established the conditions for the opening of the Mexican market to Argentine beef after 22 years

In 2021, Mexico imported a total of US$750 million of boneless beef (both fresh and frozen), equivalent to approximately 86,000 tons.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and the Sanitary Service of Mexico (Senaisca) established the conditions under which the opening of the market to boneless and matured bovine meat from Argentina is operational, so that as of today 22 establishments already may export to that market.

In this way, the Mexican market was operationally open for the arrival of Argentine meat after 22 years of negotiations, which were relaunched by presidents Alberto Fernández and Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the agricultural ministry said in a statement.

The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Juan José Bahillo, assured that “this is a highly relevant achievement for Argentina and an extremely important new market that is opening up for beef exports.”

In this sense, he stressed that Argentina already has the main export markets open, such as the European Union (EU), the United States, China, Chile, Israel, among others, so Mexico will now join “this extensive list from countries with a very high level of sanitary surveillance that recognize the hygiene, safety and quality of our meats”.

Likewise, Bahillo emphasized that this achievement is the result of coordinated work with the National Service for Food Health and Quality (Senasa) and the Argentine Foreign Ministry.

In this sense, he recognized the leadership and commitment shown by Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero, the Secretary of International Economic Relations Cecilia Todesca Bocco, the Argentine Ambassador in Mexico Carlos Tomada and the President of Senasa Diana Guillén.

For her part, the president of Senasa, Diana Guillén, praised the work carried out by the entire team of the national health agency, noting that, in July 2022, the professionals and technicians of the agency accompanied a Senasica delegation in which it was verified conditions in terms of animal health in our production system.

At the same time, during that visit, it was possible to verify the hygienic-sanitary conditions and animal welfare in refrigerated establishments, visiting some 10 provinces and several border crossings.

In January-November 2022, total Argentine exports to Mexico were US$986 million (54% more than the same period in 2021), of which US$500 million correspond to the agroindustrial sector.

The main products exported in 2022 are: sunflower oil, wheat, soybean oil and wines.
