They could have been a couple, but now she’s just cleaning his house because of a lost bass

They could have been Hollywood’s sweetest and most humble couple, the epitome of the “normal face” of the megastars of the self-centered industry. She has been named “America’s Sweetheart” and he has been named the most humble and quiet man in the movie business. Together they would be a model family.

But the relationship of Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves remained platonic and they are just friends. So close that the actress now jokes that she cleans Keanu’s house every week.

It all started on the set of the classic Speed in 1994. Both then young and up-and-coming actors were not the first choice for their roles. At the audition, Sandra told Entertainment Weekly that year, director Jan de Bont wanted to see if there was chemistry between the two and had them do quite a few “physical” scenes – like rolling around on the floor.

“At one point, Keanu staggered over to me and grabbed my bottom. ‘Don’t touch me?’ I asked him. He panicked: ‘No, I’m not touching you!'” Bullock said.

The two meet on the set again – in 2006 in “The Lake House”. Bullock then explains that they have continued to stay in touch over the years. She even writes him letters to check on him. The Oscar winner – for her role in “The Blind Country” – is known for not having a profile on social networks and sites of this type of communication to this day.

In 2014, Keanu shared that Sandra is the biggest star in the industry, with whom they are friends and periodically hear and see each other for dinner.

As recently as 2018, Sandra told The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she had a crush on Reeves when they met in 1994, but decided it wasn’t mutual.

“He’s very sweet and handsome. But I’ve never dated him, there’s probably something about me that he didn’t like,” she shared at the time.

A year later, as in one of Sandra’s trademarks – the romantic comedy, again with Ellen DeGeneres, Keanu appeared and shared that, in fact, the thrill was mutual, but then he did not suspect her attraction, but “she clearly did not she knew I had a crush on her too.”

For the avoidance of doubt, last year Bullock told Esquire magazine that, despite the rumors that arose years ago, the two have never been in a relationship. And she’s happy – that’s how they kept their friendship.

“We’ve never dated. But who knows? Keanu’s the type to stay friends with every woman he’s dated. And hardly anyone has anything terrible to say about him. So maybe we’d survive as friends,” Sandra shared.

But according to her, it’s okay because they didn’t have to save their friendship. “We were able to grow up together on parallel paths, meet for dinner and work together. And if he had dumped me, I would hardly be able to say such a thing,” she added.

She also told the sweet story of how a few years after “Speed” she told Keanu that she had never tried champagne and truffles, and a few days later the actor showed up at her door with flowers, champagne and truffles. They opened them, tried them, and as a sign of gratitude, Sandra painted the nails of the star of “The Matrix” black – like her own.

These days, Sandra says, they see each other once or twice a year, but she jokes that she cleans his house every Thursday – no specific rooms, and that’s because of a bass lost back in the “Speed” days.

In his typical style, Keanu pours in a heap of praise. “She’s a wonderful actor and person. And we have chemistry. I hope we get to play together again,” Reeves said.

However, this is unlikely to happen in the near future. Sandra Bullock recently announced that she is taking a break from filming – at least for a while. The 59-year-old star wants to have more time for family and especially for her children – Louis and Laila.

“I’m burnt out. I’m so tired, I’m not able to make healthy, smart decisions and I know it,” she explained to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bullock has not decided how long the hiatus will last.

“Work has always been a support for me. I realized it had become a crutch. Like opening the fridge all the time and looking for something that’s not there. I said to myself: ‘Stop looking there. You already have it – find it and learn to be good without work defining you,” adds the actress.

So the last – at least for now – movie we’ll see her in is Murder Train with Brad Pitt, where she has a small role.

As for the children Sandra wishes she had more time for, Louis and Lyla are adopted, African-American, and from the state of Louisiana. Bullock told Today several years ago, “Hurricane Katrina happened in New Orleans and I knew, something told me, that my child was there.”

It took a while – 5 years after “Katrina”, in 2010, she found Louis and adopted him, and a few years after that, her daughter Laila.

2010 is generally special for her. Shortly after she adopted Louis with her husband Jesse James, host of Discovery’s Monster Garage, several women went public about him having extramarital affairs with them. Because of the scandal, Sandra stopped her promotional appearances for the “Blind Side” company, and shortly after filed for divorce.

Only after receiving an Oscar for her role did she announce that she had adopted the child who had been living with her for months.

Keeping secrets and then surprising the world with them is Sandra Bullock’s trademark. In 2001, she began a relationship with Ryan Gosling. Their age difference is 16 years – she was 38 at the time and Ryan was 22.

Their story begins on the set of Murder by Numbers, where she is a detective trying to solve the perfect murder of two high school students, one of whom is played by Gosling.

Their relationship lasted less than 2 years, and the public found out about it when the two appeared as a couple at the premiere of the film. And while some may take them as a joke – Hugh Grant calls Ryan “the kid”, Sandra says she learned something from the much younger Gosling.

“To be calm. I live at a manic pace, and he taught me not to pay attention to what is not important. He is like the little Buddha,” she told “Cosmopolitan”.

In the same interview, the actress explains that it has not always been easy to maintain a relationship with her, and the problem is herself. “Usually I’m the loud one and I don’t want another loud person. I like people who make me feel small around. Strong people. And someone who, if I need help, doesn’t even ask, but helps.”

Sounds like someone like Keanu Reeves…
