The organizers do not really want to admit it yet, but the Olympic Games are on the brink due to the corona virus. In the “Tages-Anzeiger” Alex Wilson talks about the tricky situation.

Alex Wilson is the fastest Swiss sprinter. For him, as for all athletes in the world, the Olympic Summer Games, which only take place every four years, are the greatest. It’s time again this summer – maybe. In contrast to the organizers, many athletes and experts are far less confident that the major event that will start at the end of July will actually take place normally.

But as long as the event is not canceled or postponed, the athletes have to prepare for the games – as good as it is possible at the moment. In an interview with the “Tages-Anzeiger” Alex Wilson explains how difficult it is.

And he has a completely different fear: «Now the hour of the doper has come. They are now loading up with their stuff. » Because there is currently hardly anyone to fear controls, explains Wilson.

The 29-year-old is currently preparing for the season in Orlando (Florida), but the corona virus has a major impact on everyday training. The situation also affects mentally, as the fastest sprinter in Switzerland says: «We train hard, but we don’t really know what for. Now the first pre-season competitions should have taken place here. But they have all been canceled. »

It will still take a few months before the highlights (the Olympic Games in Tokyo at the end of July and the European Championships in Paris a month later) begin, «but we are already asking ourselves:‹ Is everything all right then? Do these competitions take place at all? ›»

Why Wilson hasn’t given up hope that the games will take place and much more can be found in the “Tages-Anzeiger” interview.
