They analyze a rate increase in NYC yellow taxis

The city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is holding public hearings today and tomorrow to decide whether to increase the cost of the city’s taxi service fare.

The last time the TLC raised the rate was 10 years ago, in 2012, when it approved a 17% increase.

Currently, the initial rate for taximeters is $2.50 per departure, plus $0.50 per 0.2 mile, for driving over 12 miles per hour or for every 60 seconds in slow traffic or when the vehicle is stopped.

There are also various surcharges added to the fare.

The municipal entity is also studying the possibility of increasing the salary of Uber and Lyft drivers.
