These films will be released in theaters this week | NOW

The cinemas have not escaped notice that the autumn holidays are just around the corner. This week, no fewer than thirteen films will be released. In addition to various children’s adventures, there is also room for an Oscar-nominated drama and the return of The Lord of the Rings. View below which films can be seen from Thursday.

Casanova’s (2020) – romantic comedy

Jim Bakkum plays a journalist who has to investigate a mysterious dating coach. However, this Roos (Lieke van Lexmond) has still not found the right one herself. Casanova’s is directed by Jamel Aattache, who previously collaborated with Bakkum on the romantic comedy Deeply in love! made.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) – fantasy

Peter Jackson’s Oscar-winning fantasy trilogy returns to theaters, in expanded versions previously released on DVD. In this first part, the hobbit Frodo discovers that his uncle’s mysterious ring must be destroyed as soon as possible. Together with his best friend Sam and wizard Gandalf, he sets off on a long and dangerous journey towards the dark Mordor.

Honest Thief (2020) – action thriller

Out of love for his girlfriend, bank robber Tom wants to clean up his house. When he reports himself to the FBI, however, he faces corrupt agents. The two men do everything they can to keep Tom’s stolen millions, but that doesn’t just let the veteran go. Mark Williams, known as the screenwriter of the crime series Ozark, wrote and directed this action thriller with Liam Neeson.

Body of Christ (2019) – drama

Juvenile criminal Daniel flees from his probation program and ends up in a small village, where he pretends to be a priest. His energetic and uninhibited sermons are embraced by the community, but the question is whether Daniel can save himself. The Polish Body of Christ was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year and was one of the audience favorites at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

After We Collided (2020) – drama

After their relationship ends, Hardin and Tessa each go their separate ways. Where Hardin lapses into his old destructive behavior, Tessa meets a new love. Yet the two cannot forget each other. After We Collided is the sequel to After. Both films are based on Anna Todd’s book series. The third and fourth film adaptations have also been announced.

Made in Italy (2020) – tragicomedy

Widower Robert travels to Tuscany with his son Jack to sell the house of their deceased wife and mother. The villa appears to be badly dilapidated, so there is work to be done for father and son. Their chilled relationship seems to be improving as a result. Made in Italy is the directorial debut of James D’Arcy, who made his name as an actor with the series Broadchurch and movies like Dunkirk in Cloud Atlas. Protagonists Liam Neeson and Micheál Richardson are also father and son in real life.

Kajillionaire (2020) – tragicomedy

From an early age, Old Dolio has been trained by her parents to steal and cheat. The trio moves from scam to scam, but in the meantime the daughter of the house feels that something is not right. The comical and slightly alienating coming of age drama Kajillionaire was created by director and performance artist Miranda July. She is known for the art house hit, among other things Me and You and Everyone We Know. The main role is played by Westworld-actrice Evan Rachel Wood.

Marilyn (2020) – drama

Seventeen-year-old Marcos likes boys, but in rural Argentina there is no room for such love. The teenager is not only discriminated against, but also seen as an object of lust. Marcos therefore feels increasingly cornered. Marilyn is based on a true story.

As the son of Bigfoot, young Adam finds himself in an adventure again, in this sequel Bigfoot Junior. Director Ben Stassen previously made the animation film Corgi.

The Great Sinterklaas Movie (2020) – family film

Saint Nicholas’ Eve is in danger, because the saint’s castle is about to collapse. The Saint and his Petes are forced to move to a campsite, but in the meantime they wonder whether their annual party is being sabotaged on purpose. 86-year-old Bram van der Vlugt and director Lucio Messercola also previously made together The letter from Saint Nicholas.

100% Wolf (2020) – family film
