The IHK members have elected their new representatives in the “Parliament of the Economy” in the region. Some prominent Mönchengladbach entrepreneurs will be there.

The members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Middle Lower Rhine have elected a new plenary assembly for the electoral period from 2022 to 2026. 105 candidates ran for the 70 seats. “We were particularly pleased that many young entrepreneurs also stood for election. The new general assembly is a good mix of new and experienced players, ”said Wilhelm F. Thywissen, chairman of the IHK election committee.

18 women and 52 men belong to the new general assembly, as the IHK announced. The directly elected members will meet for the constituent meeting on February 15, 2022. The new general assembly then elects the president and eight vice-presidents by secret ballot. The previous IHK President Elmar te Neues from Krefeld is also among the elected.

The plenary assembly is regarded as the “parliament of the economy” in the region and is the most important organ of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The general assembly determines the guidelines of the IHK work and elects the president and the vice-presidents of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry from among their ranks. In addition, it decides on the budget and the amount of contributions and fees. “I’m looking forward to working with the new general assembly,” said IHK general manager Jürgen Steinmetz. “Now it is a matter of filling the committees and defining the priorities of the IHK work in the coming years.”

The members of the general assembly were elected in twelve constituencies, which represent all branches of the economy of the IHK district. The number of seats in the General Assembly depends on the economic importance of each branch.
