After 91 (!) New York Fashion Week shows and presentations, it’s time to take stock: what were the biggest trends, what are we going to wear? Now that many designers have been able to show in ‘real’ again, the inspiration is perhaps greater than ever – whether it comes from established names such as Proenza Schouler or new talent. Check out Rap Bazaar’s favorite trends below, which are ideal for cutting and pasting to your own wardrobe.

1

Bras at the top

We can’t call it a brand new trend, but the visible bra is still here to stay. Once put back on the map by Katie Holmes with that casual photo, now seen by designers like Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Michael Kors. Undergarments seem to have been definitively transformed into clothing, thanks to the normalization of bra(tops) as a capsule item.

2

Disco fever

The worldwide desire for a party is still great, as was apparent from the groovy collection(s) of many a designer. For example, Rodarte came up with endless danceable dresses, Tom Ford used ‘glitter and shine’ as a foundation for his entire line, and Brandon Maxwell provided a creative interpretation of Hi-Shine.

3

diamond fever

Diamonds are normally mainly reserved for the Fall/Winter presentations, but now also made their inroads during last NYFW. For example, Coach came up with checks in cotton candy pink and lime green, incorporated into mini dresses and oversized ponchos. Prabal Gurung also presented a modern interpretation of the age-old print, giving the motif a fresh boost.

4

Post-covid office look

The time when sweatpants and uggs also reigned supreme during office hours, now seems to be slowly coming to an end. Designers such as Peter Do already gave development a boost: he came up with different boxy blazers and oversized shirts. Luar and Thom Browne took a similar approach, full of beautiful suits and even ties.

5

Funky knitwear

Knitwear only for the winter? Are you crazy: countless designers showed at NYFW that knits are just as perfect for warm(er) days. For example, Anna Sui came up with a crochet bra in candy colors and Gabriella Hearst showed different psychedelic prints. Perhaps it-girl Ella Emhoff, who caused a furore this year with her knitting talent, secretly had a finger in the pie.

6

Korset details

Sex is back in fashion, and with it the corset: a more perfect counterpart to that gigantic working from home sweater is not there. While Staud presented it clean and minimalist this season, LaQuan Smith came up with a lace model. Puppets & Puppets and Tory Burch also took advantage of the trend, which has already been reflected in several street style stars.

7

Golden hour

Now that the summer has not materialized in the Netherlands, the desire for a so-called Californian sunset extra large: after all, there is little more magical than a sky in orange, pink and purple. Fortunately, there were plenty of golden hour-esque looks to be found during NYFW, including from Proenza Schouler, Collina Strada and Eckhaus Latta. Nice example of compensation.
