These are the ten best wines in Franconia

It was a special event for special wines: under strict conditions due to the corona pandemic, the Franconian Viticulture Association held its “Best of Gold” competition. The best Franconian wines were selected in ten categories. Only wines that received a gold medal in the Franconian Wine Awards or passed a special pre-tasting were eligible to participate. Victory winemakers have now received awards at the Steinburg in Würzburg.

As the winegrowing association reports, the record number of 446 wines from 82 wineries took part in the 17th edition of the competition. In the pre-tasting 28 wines were rejected, so that the jury of 50 wine experts, journalists, bloggers, sommeliers and restaurateurs tasted and rated 418 wines in a single day in the final tasting.

For Artur Steinmann, President of the Franconian Viticulture Association, “Best of Gold” is the “most important wine exhibition in Franconia”. By far, with a reduced number of participants and in compliance with the strict safety and hygiene regulations, it was possible to hold the competition.

Steinmann said the quality of the wines was “incredibly high” this year. It adele a winery if its wine prevails in this competition. “I would like to warmly congratulate our ten winners”, said Steinmann at the award ceremony on the Steinburg over Würzburg, which was moderated by the former Franconian wine queen Klara Zehnder. The current regent, Carolin Meyer, honored the victorious winemakers together with Steinmann and the initiator of the competition, Hermann Mengler.
