Viersen At the beginning of August, four bands and a solo artist will perform on the summer stage at the city’s Young Talents competition. A participant from Viersen is there.

The Dülken group Beyond was able to win the title at Hohen Busch last summer – soon the next “Young Talents” will be chosen there. “Following the successful open-air premiere on the cultural stage last year, the Viersen band competition ‘Young Talents’ will once again take place in the open air on the Hoher Busch,” said a city spokesman. On Saturday, August 6th, the public can judge the performances of the up-and-coming artists together with a jury of experts. Admission is from 4 p.m., the performances start at 5 p.m.

The competition is part of the city’s cultural program with a total of ten events such as concerts, theater performances, but also, for example, a reading and stand-up comedy. Under the title “Summer Stage”, the city will be performing on the ten by twelve meter stage on the grounds of the Open Air Hoher Busch.

At the beginning of April, the city called on artists to apply for the 16th Young Talents band contest. They had until the end of May to do this. Five places were up for grabs. A jury of experts was put together for this purpose. This consists of musicians and representatives of the city of Viersen, the writing guild and the event industry, the city had informed at the time. Young musicians and bands whose average age is not more than 25 years were able to apply with their own pieces of music.

It is planned that the jury, together with the audience, will select the winning band of the evening on the final day in August. The jury’s verdict and the audience’s vote should each account for 50 percent of the rating.

The city has now announced the five finalists: bands Headempty, Miss Madison, Scratch, Redish and solo artist Akkobi. “Akkobi is a very young hip-hop artist from Viersen,” explains the city spokesman. “With controversial lyrics, state-of-the-art production and sound and a flow like an old man, he has already gained a lot of attention in the scene.” The music of Headempty from the Alps is characterized by dreamy melodies, hanging rhythms and nostalgic synth sounds . “The band, founded in 2021, already has hits in the thousands online with their songs.” The band Miss Madison from Mönchengladbach stands for pop-rock with a pinch of indie – sometimes dreamy, sometimes soulful, always honest and intoxicating. “The four boys around 20 have been making music together since 2018. Influences from U2 to Coldplay are unmistakable.”

Also in the final are Scratch from Mönchengladbach. The pop punks are influenced by bands like Blink-182 or Green Day and value their own sound. “After several line-up changes, the band is now eager to present itself to a larger audience,” says the city spokesman. The band Redish from Krefeld is based on the current Britpop sound: “Founded in mid-2021, the current line-up consists of two singers and guitarists, a bassist and a drummer. The first singles have already been recorded and will be released soon.”
