Yesterday, Apple paid tribute to not one, but two different audio-focused media forms. Apple Newsroom first posted a message about the winners of the 2021 Apple Music Awards, in which the best artists of the year were awarded. A few hours later, another message followed about the best podcasts of that year. In this article, we combine the two and present: the best of audio from 2021 (according to Apple).

Apple Music Awards 2021
Only a handful of awards were presented at the 2021 Apple Music Awards. The most prestigious award went to R&B singer The Weeknd. Apple named him Best Artist of the Year. Coincidentally, he’s not the only R&B artist on the list, as Best Songwriter of the Year went to singer HER.
Still, by far the most prizes went to newcomer Olivia Rodrigo. She was not allowed to receive one, not two, but three trophies. These are: Best New Artist of the Year, Best Album of the Year (for ‘SOUR’), and Best Song of the Year (for ‘Drivers License’).
In addition, a number of musicians were awarded the best Regional Artists of the Year. This concerns the following five: Wizkid (Africa), Aya Nakamura (France), RIN (Germany), Official HIGE DANdism (Japan) and Scriptonite (Russia).

The Best Podcasts of 2021
No specific prize has been awarded for the best podcasts, but Newsroom did post an article about the best podcasts of 2021. In this case, the top prize went to Maya Shankar. She may appropriate the title of ‘Best Show of the Year’ thanks to her podcast ‘A Slight Change of Plans‘. In it she talks with her guests about major changes in the lives of both the speakers and the listeners.
Newcomer of the Year goes to ‘Anything for Selena‘of podcast maker Marcia Garcia. Her podcast focuses on ‘existence’, but with a twist. She does this in relation to her idol, the American artist Selena Quintanilla. She was murdered in 1995 at the age of 23. So Garcia has combined her two passions with the podcast and her love for the singer.
