There will be outdoor terraces in Riga all year round :: Dienas Bizness

At a time when strict restrictions were set in the country, the demand for dishes and confectionery has increased, Ieva Treija, the head of SIA “Gemoss”, observed. The company is currently working to open the first Gemoss store in Vidzeme, which will be located in Valmiera.

Demand for food has grown and, due to government restrictions, the demand for disposable tableware used by companies to keep things going has increased many times over.

The current situation, which is changing and changing shopping habits for everyone, also caused Gemoss to shake even more and open an e-shop to become available without leaving the office or home.

“This is a difficult time for companies in our industry, the number of visitors is limited, working hours are reduced, many people lose their jobs and some entrepreneurs are forced to close down. It also affects our company. There are no big events and receptions. then the dish rental sector in our company has the most significant reduction in turnover, “says I.Treija.

In April and May, the company experienced a very significant drop in turnover, as the entire hospitality, catering and tourism industry suffered as a result of strict restrictions.

During this time, Gemoss cleaned its training kitchen warehouse and found kitchen and confectionery equipment that was used only once in workshops and seminars organized by the company. The company decided not to throw things away, but to give them new value. Therefore, at the beginning of the summer, everyone was invited to come together and change, trade, inspire – for the first time andele was organized, which was attended by chefs, entrepreneurs, culinary enthusiasts. The company plans to hold such an event again, as it was a valuable experience.

Restaurants, cafes and bars also turn to the company for advice before opening their doors to visitors. “We are proud and satisfied with anyone who has the courage and determination to create something new, dare and open their own business. We provide both consultations when designing kitchens and help to choose the most suitable kitchen appliances and dishes. One of the most creative processes is choosing dishes, often Representatives of companies come together with designers and we choose together.Colorful dishes are still relevant, but it has been observed that each customer wants to be unique and different from other existing hospitality companies. If the company is managed by a professional in the field, such as chef, is focused on quality, not just price, “says I.Treija.

The company has noticed that at a time of severe restrictions in the country, many people have turned to tidying up their homes, and there has been an increase in demand for dishes.

This year, the owners of private houses have also wanted to buy dishes corresponding to the quality of restaurants.

In the private sector, the company is seeing an increase in confectionery – baking bread at home, making cakes. The company has also set up online training so that people can come up with ideas for both professional chefs and culinary enthusiasts.

If you look at the food segment, the consumption of legumes and cereals is becoming more and more popular. “We have created the brand” Just Nature “, which is a specially developed product line, offering the necessary cereals and legumes for the body. Their assortment includes Turkish peas, bulgur, lentils, quinoa, couscous, pearl pearls, various rice, green buckwheat, as well as “alternative flour and other interesting products. For our company, there is a decrease in demand in a sector, which shows an increase in demand,” says I.Treija.

The company’s customers are both legal entities and individuals. “At the moment, we are thinking very much about how we can be together with the industry, how to support local companies and our customers. We are looking for new solutions and finding new ways to cooperate. For example, we have helped to choose dishes for both Library No. 1 and Liepaja hotels.” Maestro restaurant, Kest restaurant in Cēsis also has dishes selected from us, and they are supplemented with their own stamp. We are also a distributor of “Monin” syrups in the Baltics, for example, wherever these syrups can be seen, they can be said that they In recent years, there has been a trend towards the development of the “private label” product segment, our products are also packaged for other companies, already in their own brand packaging. 50 kg package, each of our customers, known or less known, is very important to us, “says I.Treija.

The head of “Gemoss” says that this year greater growth was observed in small restaurants, guest houses and cafes located outside Riga. People chose safe travel and rest here within Latvia or the Baltics.

“At the time of Covid-19, when there are restrictions on working in the office and people work from home, they start thinking about how to miss and how to get what was at work, and one of those things is coffee. Solutions are being sought and professionals are being sought advice. More and more people like to be able to grind fresh coffee themselves, try to froth milk and create drawings.Classics – we all learn drawings and want them to be better and better. The most popular coffee in cafes and bars for Latvians is cappucino a coffee with milk – it has been observed that in Latvia 80% of people consume coffee with milk. The trend is starting to change, for example, more and more people choose alternative milks – almonds and rice, as well as get to know the world of espresso, “says I.Treija.

In Latvia, as everywhere else in the world, people continue to live, study and work. “Public habits are changing, probably in the autumn and winter season there will be a decrease in customers in restaurants and bars, this is also due to a decrease in the number of tourists every year, but in the spring we hope that similarly to has already voiced its opinion that there is a need for state support for this sector, which is suffering losses in general, it is likely that additional support will be needed next year, “says the head of” Gemoss “.
