TRIBUNBATAM.id – The Aedes aegypti mosquito has been known to cause dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).
However, it turns out that these mosquitoes can also cause other diseases, such as chikungunya.
Virus chikungunya first discovered in Africa, to be precise in Makonde.
The region is located between Mozambique and Tanzania.
Viral infection chikungunya at Makonde was first discovered in 1952.
Since then, this virus has begun to spread to other African regions, South Asia, China, Taiwan, to Southeast Asia such as the Philippines and Indonesia.
More broadly, disease chikungunya even spread to Europe.
Word chikungunya comes from the Makonde language which means ‘something that binds’.
This meaning refers to a symptom of joint pain that results in limited and stiff joint movement.
