Obesity is a breeding ground for the development of the coronavirus. The announcement comes from researchers at Lille University Hospital and the Hospices Civils de Lyon who highlighted the danger of obesity for patients with coronavirus.
–The study published Monday in the medical journal The Lancet Diabet & Endocrinology, was conducted on more than 450 patients hospitalized in Lille and Lyon, and “highlights the presence, in excessive numbers, of overweight patients in covid- 19 and in intensive care “.
According to Dr Cyrielle Caussy, one of the study’s authors and member of the Endocrinology-Diabetology department at the Lyon-Sud hospital, “there are 25% of patients with obesity whereas in the French adult population, 15% are obese. ” She adds that in “resuscitation services, the proportion of people with obesity is 35%”, twice as much as in the general population, “reports AFP.
According to the same source, “it is important to strengthen the protective measures with regard to people suffering from obesity, especially if they are contaminated. We must be careful, maintain barrier gestures”, insists the doctor.
