There is a Bakrie Group Share of Rp 1.7 Trillion but the Value is Declining as of March 17

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes Ali Mukartono reports the results of an investigation into the alleged involvement of the Bakrie Group in the alleged corruption case of PT Asuransi Jiwasraya.

Ali said, PT Asuransi Jiwasraya owned Bakrie Group shares worth Rp 1.7 trillion.

“In the BPK RI report, the state financial loss was Rp. 16.8 trillion, in which there were state financial losses and the placement of Bakrie Group shares in the PT AJS portfolio of Rp. 1.7 trillion,” Ali said in a joint meeting of the House of Representatives Commission III in the parliament complex , Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (2/7/2020).

“As of March 17, 2020 there has been a decrease of Rp 973.7 billion,” he said.

Ali said the purchase of Bakrie Group shares was still being explored.

He also said the Attorney General’s Office would investigate the Bakrie Group’s involvement in the transaction.

“The transaction data still needs to be researched while awaiting the development of investigations and trials, especially the extent of its involvement in manipulating share prices, is still being verified,” Ali said.

In the Jiwasraya scandal, the Bakrie Group was allegedly involved because there were purchases of shares of two Bakrie Group companies namely PT Bakrieland Development Tbk (ELTY) and PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR).

Quoted from Kompas Daily, Friday (6/26/2020), Managing Director of PT Hanson International Tbk Benny Tjokro said, the Bakrie Group was involved in regulating Jiwasraya’s shares before the start of the Jiwasraya scandal case hearing.

According to Benny, he was only a black sheep. This is because he has large assets that can be used to cover state losses.

As for what caused Jiwasraya’s loss since 2006, continued Benny, was the Bakrie Group company. However, this was not revealed because the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) covered it.

BPK member VI, Harry Azhar Azis, refused to respond to this. The reason was that it was related to the report on the calculation of state losses which had now been submitted to the AGO.

“The report is confidential,” he said.
