There are many issues with sexual harassment, Gina S Noer urges an ethics council

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Director Gina S Noer suggested the film industry to form an ethics board to address the case of film crews Light Copier suspected of being involved in sexual harassment.

“Hopefully after this heartbreaking incident, the film industry can together form a board of ethics,” said Gina S Noer in a statement Twitter on social media, Tuesday (11/1), which is allowed to be quoted CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (12/1).

“It is clear: work standards, complaint channels from the scale of filmmaking to industry, as well as legal & psychological assistance for victims, including recovery of names if the suspect is found to be innocent,” he continued.

Gina said there needed to be certain standards and rules regarding sexual harassment and bullying. According to Gina, the rule can be placed on a shooting location or posted on a particular page.

Gina also said that alone is not enough. The studio will be tested for its seriousness in viewing the issue of sexual harassment in the film industry through the complaint channel.

“Especially if the producer/director/main actor/writer/chief is doing it… the conditions are getting more difficult,” wrote Gina.

Gina also advises those who feel they have committed acts that include sexual violence to be honest before working.

According to Komnas Perempuan, sexual violence consists of 15 types of acts, namely rape, sexual intimidation including threats or attempted rape, and sexual harassment.

Then there is sexual exploitation, trafficking in women for sexual purposes, forced prostitution, sexual slavery, forced marriage including hanging, forced pregnancy, and forced abortion.

Then there are forced contraception and sterilization, sexual torture, inhumane and sexually nuanced punishments, harmful sexual traditions and discrimination against women, and sexual control including through discriminatory regulations.

“People who hire may have a choice: background check, keep the job with a disclaimer to other team members, or drop out altogether,” said Gina S Noer.
