There are hundreds of millions at stake. Manchester City will find out today if he will be eliminated from the cups

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will today announce a decision on whether Manchester City Football Club will play European Cups in the next two seasons.

In February, the European Football Union punished the English club for serious violations of financial fair play rules and licensing regulations.

The six-time winners of the English league appealed against UEFA’s decision to a sports arbitration, which discussed Manchester’s application by video conference in June.

According to investigators, the club, whose majority owner is Sheikh Mansour from the United Arab Emirates, overestimated the income from sponsors in its accounts and in materials submitted by UEFA between 2012 and 2016.

City was also weighed down by the reluctance of its officials to cooperate in the investigation. “Citizens” have to pay a fine of 30 million euros (800 million crowns) in addition to the ban on starting in cups.

If the two-year sentence is confirmed, Manchester City is in danger of losing hundreds of millions and may lose some stars who will not want to accept non-participation in the cups. The opposite outcome of the appeal proceedings could undermine UEFA’s efforts to ensure the economic stability of clubs.
