There are already 1,471 cases in Austria

Compared to the previous day, the number of infected people increased again significantly.

The number of confirmed infections with the novel corona virus in Austria rose to 1,471 by Wednesday (as of 8:00 a.m.). That means an increase of 30 percent compared to the previous day. The highest number of Covid-19 cases continues to be recorded in Tyrol with 352, in neighboring Vorarlberg it was 107 until Wednesday morning, the Ministry of Health reported.

237 positive tests were registered from Lower Austria, data on 180 confirmed infections were available in Vienna, 188 in Styria, 285 in Upper Austria, 80 in Salzburg, 13 in Burgenland and 29 in Carinthia. So far, 11,977 tests have been carried out.

Three deaths related to SARS-CoV-2 are also considered confirmed, two in Vienna and one in Styria. The Ministry stated that the number of recovered patients was already nine on Tuesday, two in Tyrol, five in Vienna and two in Lower Austria.

A total of 198,152 confirmed cases have been announced worldwide, 81,086 of which were reported by China, the ministry said. 81,960 people have already recovered from Covid-19 globally.

Now also Sölden under quarantine

The Tyrolean towns of Sölden in the Ötztal and St. Christoph am Arlberg were quarantined on Tuesday evening due to the corona virus. Police checkpoints at the local borders have been set up. The communities will be isolated until April 2nd.

There are three positive tests from Sölden. All are related to an umbrella bar in the glacier ski area. However, it is not yet clear whether they have been infected there.

Royal family. Many of Austria’s most exclusive ski areas are now under quarantine: The Vorarlberg Arlberg communities of Lech, Klösterle, Warth and Schröcken are also cordoned off. From February 25, the entire Dutch royal family was on vacation in Oberlech. The Royals are back in Holland. By March 21, however, they had canceled all appointments.

Vacuum. At the same time, political pressure on the Tyrolean VP Health Councilor Bernhard Tilg is increasing. There are serious allegations against him that he reacted too late and too loosely.

However, he rejects all allegations that Tyrol ended the ski season too late: “The authorities did everything right,” said Tilg, triggering violent reactions on social media. The allegations are controversial: The first cases occurred on March 5 in the ski resort of Ischgl. Two days later the test of a German bartender (36) was positive. The state of Tyrol did not close the bar and other après-ski bars until March 10th.
