Theater Vorpommern inspires with Dr. Dolittle children

The Putbus theater had recently landed a hit with primary school students on the island of Rügen with a classic children’s book. “Dr. Dolittle – The Doctor Who Talks to Animals “is what the theater makers called the new work and wanted to answer questions that students had always asked themselves.

Dirk Böhling transformed the 100-year-old book into a stage-ready piece that took the audience into a world with fantastic animals. The students experienced a convincing Dr. John Dolittle (Lutz Jesse), who runs a veterinary practice in the small town of Puddelby-on-the-Marsh. Because he claims he can talk to animals, most people think he is crazy and avoid the practice.

560 children watched

Before he had to close it because of excessive debts, he received a job offer from Africa, where a strange disease had broken out among the monkeys. After an exciting crossing, a turbulent time begins with a stay in prison, healing of African animals and a pirate battle. In the end he can even pay his debts by exhibiting the “push-me-pull-me” he brought with him from the tour.

In five events, more than 560 boys and girls enjoyed child-friendly music by Sebastian Undisz and marveled at the colorful stage design by Jakob Knapp. But it was particularly impressive how five actors can play the 22 characters and animals that came on stage in the Putbuss premiere.

Students were delighted

“We experienced a very entertaining and funny piece,” says elementary school teacher Christiane Tittel, “with many sequences from different films and comics.” That was of course very well received by the children, who liked “Star Wars”, “Fanta 4” and “Finds.” Nemo ”is a term. So it is not surprising that the students got back to school enthusiastically.

“The children’s eyes were beaming with joy over the wonderful morning in your classroom,” says a feedback that Ines Gebler from the Putbus Theater was happy to pass on to all the theater people involved.
