Theater and film actress Jana Andresíková died, she played a witch in Arabella | Culture

Prague Film and theater actress Jana Andresíková died on Monday at the age of 79. She became known to television viewers mainly as the role of a witch in the fairy-tale series Arabel.

She lent her voice to a number of other film and radio characters. In 2010, she won the František Filipovský Award for lifetime championship in dubbing. Andresíková informed her daughter Michaela Binderová about the death.

Jana Andresíková was born in 1941 in Kroměříž. After graduating from the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts, she worked at the Maringotka Theater in Prague and the Za branou Theater.

In 1969, she left a permanent engagement and worked as a freelance actress. For many years she also worked as a teacher at the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU), where she educated such actors as Valerie Zawadská, Miroslav Vladyka and David Prachař. She also taught stage speech at the Private Acting School in Prague.

He got rather medium and small roles in film and television. Probably most famous as the evil witch in the series Miloš Macourek and Václav Vorlíček Arabel, respectively the role of Mrs. Černá from his sequel Arabela returns.

However, viewers can also remember her from the film The Last Queen from 1975, in which she played the title role of Queen Eliška Přemyslovna. In recent years, she has starred in the film comedy Kameňák or in the fairy tale The Devil’s Bride.

Andresíková’s voice was also popular with radio and dubbing. She lent her voice to, among others, the American actress Woopi Goldberg in the film Sister in Action.
