Comprehensive mainland media reports, a 19-year-old youth was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, is the youngest known case so far. The case was published in a paper published by Jia Jianping’s team from Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University in Beijing in the “Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease”.

According to the paper, the young man began to have difficulty concentrating since high school, and later suffered from obvious short-term memory loss. Affected, difficulty in reading and responding, and even forgetting whether he has eaten or not, eventually needing to drop out of school to seek medical treatment.

The hospital then conducted a number of examinations for the young man, including cerebrospinal fluid index testing and PET scans. Scanned images showed that the young man was suffering from mild brain atrophy and other symptoms, and some cerebrospinal fluid indicators were also abnormal. After clinical diagnosis, it was confirmed that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Jia Longfei, chief physician of the Department of Neurology of Xuanwu Hospital, one of the authors of the paper, said that the patient is the youngest known case of Alzheimer’s disease, and the case does not carry a gene mutation known to be associated with Alzheimer’s disease. , is a very rare case. As for the youngest patient previously diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he was 21 years old and both had a genetic disorder. Therefore, this case made Jia Longfei doubtful about the test results for a while.

Jia Longfei added that the public does not need to worry too much about this rare case, pointing out that many diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, are related to the patient’s physical condition, genetic factors, and lifestyle, etc.:

In fact, memory is related to many factors. Most people’s “forgetting” is often functional, not really something wrong with the brain. For most people, choosing good living habits and a regular schedule are enough.
