The youngest among the legends. The stars on the Walk of Fame now have Mádl and Kotek

The unveiling of tiles with the names of former children’s film stars is a traditional part of the Zlín Film Festival, and the event is being prepared by the Kapka naděje Endowment Fund. There are now 33 stars on the sidewalk. Only Mádl was in Zlín at the event, Kotek could not arrive due to an injury he had previously caused in a car accident.

Mádl and Kotek became the youngest holders of stars on the Walk of Fame. “I am very happy, I have important steps of my career connected with Zlín, here I experienced for the first time a big screening of the film, it was the first festival I went to with the film. Then Vojta and I moderated it here, “said Mádl, who has also presented the film Let’s Go to the Sea at the festival, which he directed.

Thirty-three-year-old Mádl and a year younger Kotek became famous for their roles in the film Snowboarders, followed, for example, by playing together in the film Raftáci. Both then created a number of other roles, Mádl played in the films How to Tame Crocodiles, Gympl, I Wake Up Yesterday, Kotek recently appeared in the television series Maria Theresa or the film Owners. Both actors have also directed, Mádl’s films Let’s Go to the Sea and On the Roof, Kotek’s film Fifty.

Mádl is now shooting the film Diary of Modern Photography, where he plays the main role. “Then I would like to direct again, it could start next year,” said Madl. The film will be from the editorial office of the international life of Czechoslovak Radio in the 1960s. The coronavirus pandemic also touched the bar, the planned tour of America with the film On the Roof was canceled, but he had time to complete the script for a film about radio, he also shot the series I Love You, Pucinko.

As a child, Mádl liked the films Long Live the Ghosts, and according to him, the films Alone at Home and The Endless Story were crucial to him. “I will definitely remember them once a week and say specific sentences from them,” said Mádl.

This year, the organizers unveiled the stars on the sidewalk for 15 years, last year it was won by actor Jan Hrušínský and singer Helena Vondráčková. In previous years, for example, Ivana Andrlová, director Karel Smyczek, actress Pavlína Mourková, Klára Pollertová-Trojanová and Jiří Strach, Lucie Zedníčková, Jan Potměšil, Tomáš Holý, Žaneta Fuchsová or Vladimír Dlouhý and his brother Michal. The International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Zlín is the oldest and largest festival of its kind in the world. This year is the 60th year.

The partner of the festival is Tomas Bata University in Zlín. He distributes “smiling stellar doctorates”. Now they are the holders of Mádl and Kotek, in the past they were received, for example, by Jiřina Bohdalová, Lucie Vondráčková, Mahulena Bočanová, Tereza Brodská, Dana Morávková or Jan Čenský.
