The World Health Organization calls for vaccination against influenza

As the flu season approaches, the World Health Organization (WHO) is calling on people to be vaccinated against the flu.

The head of the organization emphasizes that this year it is especially necessary because of Covid-19. If Covid-19 is accompanied by an outbreak of influenza, it could cause serious problems for the healthcare system, as the number of patients would increase significantly.

“Both diseases have many similar symptoms. Several measures that are effective in the fight against Covid-19 also help to effectively prevent the flu, distance, hand hygiene, covering the mouth with coughs and masks. And although we do not yet have a vaccine against Covid-19, we do have a safe and effective flu vaccine, ”says Tedros Adanom Gebreesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.

There are around 3.5 million flu patients worldwide each year.
