The World Bank could provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan / Article

Anonymous sources at the bank report that the proposal to allocate funds from the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund will be discussed at an informal board meeting. A compromise plan for humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, which has been taken over by the radical Taliban, is being considered.

The World Bank’s intention is part of a compromise reached with the United Nations (UN) and the US government to divert some half a billion dollars to humanitarian aid bypassing the Taliban.

The UN has previously warned that some 22 million Afghans, or more than half of the country’s population, will face acute food shortages during the winter months. The main reasons for this are the drought caused by climate change and the economic crisis following the change of power.

The American retreat was taken advantage of by the Taliban, an Islamic fundamentalist group that took control of increasingly new areas of Afghanistan and in mid-August without a fight. also occupied the national capital Kabul. As a result, all of Afghanistan is back under Taliban control.

Although the Taliban promised that will not try to take revenge on opponents of the regime, the international community is concerned about the deteriorating human rights situation in Afghanistan and new restrictionsimposed on different groups in society, especially women.
