The Women’s Race does not give up and this year it will be virtual, under the motto ‘Run… fly for them’ – In community – Ceuta al Día

On March 8, 2020, 6,000 people ran dressed in pink and united in defense of equality and in the fight against breast cancer. A pink-tinged stamp of unity and solidarity that cannot be repeated in 2021 and we don’t need to explain why. But in the Ministry of Social Services, through the Women’s Advisory Center, and the Association of Mastectomized Women (ACMUMA) they have made their cape a garment and have decided to adapt to the circumstances, in an example of help and resilience, flags of the feminism of the XXI century. This year there would also be a Women’s Race, it will be the sixteenth edition, although in 2021, due to Covid-19, the appointment will be virtual and symbolic.

“Hopefully soon we can run free through life again,” wished the Minister of Social Services, Dunia Mohamed, at the presentation of this sixteenth edition. For now, we will have to wait for that, although the City’s commitment to keeping this symbolic struggle alive and making this cause visible continues: “It’s everyone’s job.” This year’s edition, with the slogan ‘Run… fly for them’, will be held virtually, since we did not “want to leave aside an important appointment (…) because it is participatory and demanding, demanding for the struggle between the real equality between men and women, and the battle and fight against cancer ”, stated Dunida Mohamed.

All the benefits of the XVI Women’s Race will go to equal parts to the Spanish Association against Cancer and Acumula, which will allocate the proceeds to cancer research. Acmuma’s spokesperson, Isabel Lagares, agrees that this year, given the circumstances, half of the 2020 record number will be reached and at least 3,000 subscriptions will be achieved. In the event that someone does not have access to the Internet or does not have the necessary means to register, they can also sign up at the Women’s Advisory Center (CAM), where a point will be enabled.

Registrations are already open until March 7 on the website Mistiemposconchip.com, the organizing company of the virtual race. The 6 euros that the registration costs include the right to the number (which for the first registered, until February 15, will be personalized) and a commemorative mask of the occasion. Participation, therefore, can be individual or in a group, but as long as the security measures established by the covid-19 are respected.
