The West is ready for new negotiations with Russia

Blinken and Stoltenberg

Blinken and Stoltenberg discussed the next steps in the talks with Russia that began this week.

The US and NATO are ready for a new meeting with Russia. This was reported by the press service of the US State Department following the talks between Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

“Secretary Anthony Blinken spoke today with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to discuss the next steps after the Russia-NATO Council meeting on January 12. The United States and NATO are ready to meet with Russia again and are committed to continuing diplomatic engagement and reciprocal dialogue,” the statement said.

The State Department added that “the United States and its NATO allies are united in their pursuit of a diplomatic path and call on Russia to take immediate action to de-escalate its ongoing aggression against Ukraine.”

As is known, a number of talks between Western countries and Russia on security guarantees took place this week. The Kremlin considers the negotiations unsuccessful.

It was also reported that The United States did not expect breakthroughs from negotiations with Russia. Washington is ready to continue dialogue with Russia on security guarantees, but this will depend on the situation around Ukraine.
