The weather agency is alerted: Two hurricanes are approaching the US coast

The southern mainland of the United States is expected to be hit by two cyclones in a row. The two hurricanes are heading straight for the Gulf of Mexico and threaten to cause storm surges and floods.

A tropical storm is forecast to continue to gain strength over the Gulf of Mexico and hit the southern US coast as a hurricane tomorrow, Monday. The hurricane “Marco” already brings sustained winds with a speed of up to 110 kilometers per hour and even stronger gusts, said the National Hurricane Center (NHC). “Marco” should therefore continue to gain strength over the warm water of the Gulf and soon reach hurricane strength.

According to the NHC, the storm will hit land on Monday afternoon in the area of the state of Louisiana. Storm surges, floods and dangerous gusts of wind are to be expected in the affected areas, as the weather department warned. A hurricane of the lowest category one brings winds of at least 119 km / h with it. Overland, however, the hurricane should then “quickly” weaken again and move west to Texas, as the weather department said.

Another and somewhat weaker tropical storm, “Laura”, came from the Caribbean and also moved to the US mainland. The storm system was intended to sweep across the Dominican Republic and Haiti, where heavy rain and flooding were expected. The storm should then pass Cuba and arrive in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday night at the earliest. According to the NHC, the storm could hit land in the southern states of Louisiana and Mississippi on Wednesday.
