The Wanting Mare: a breathtaking trailer for the sci-fi movie

One of the most anticipated independent films of 2020 was Nicholas Ashe Bateman’s feature debut, The Wanting Mare, a special effects heavy sci-fi fantasy film that spans generations and the cosmos. After showing at festivals and gaining a buzz online, the film has finally found a home thanks to Gravitas Ventures, which will launch The Wanting Mare in available theaters and on Video On Demand on February 5.

In the world of Anmaere, north of the town of Whithren, wild horses cross the moors and ascend the coast. These horses are the city’s most valuable export, and as a result, they are hunted, trapped, sold, and shipped across the sea once a year. For those of Whithren, this shopping passage creates lucrative and exciting possibilities: the chance to escape their perpetually suffocating town and head to the western mainland of Levithen, or just start all over again.

Meanwhile, in a small house north of town, a young woman dies in childbirth. Her last words are an attempt to tell her daughter about the life she will have and her legacy of a recurring dream that must be kept a secret; because it contains the memories of another age long before ours, the one when magic and myth were alive in the world.

The Wanting Mare marks the directorial debuts of Nicholas Ashe Bateman, Shane Carruth (Primer) and Lawrence Inglee (The Day After) as executive producers. The film stars Jordan Monaghan, Josh Clark, Yasamin Keshtkar, Kate Lyn Sheil, Christine Kellogg-Darrin.
