According to the latest trademark reports and files, the successor “full electric” of the current XC90 it would be called Embla. In Norse mythology, Embla is the name of the first woman.
The name would be relevant to the Swedish heritage of Volvo, according to the positioning of the future electric SUV. This will be the first model in a “new era” of electric cars produced by the Gothenburg company.
Volvo representatives submitted the documents for the registration of the name “Embla” in October 2021. This suggests that the name is intended for the future electric SUV. This is the first time in the last four years that the Scandinavian manufacturer has filed a trademark that begins with a vowel.
So, the electric successor to the XC90 would be the first Volvo model in more than half a century to bear a different name than the traditional one.
According to unofficial information published by The Drive, although the exact name has not yet been confirmed. But Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson recently said in an interview that the name of the future electric SUV “will start with a vowel”.
However, Volvo denies this information. The Swedes say the name of the future electric SUV has not even been chosen.
