The space agency of China he just released the video of the probe ‘Tianwen-1′ entering the orbit of Mars, moment that occurred last Wednesday. In the images, released by the state broadcaster CCTV (which he also shared through the Chinese social network Weibo), you can watch the probe maneuver, which marked a new milestone in the Chinese aerospace race. Specifically, you can see the surface of the planet against the black background of space, and you can even see some craters.

The video was created from still images taken by the control cameras of the solar wing and the directional antenna, according to strong of the space agency.

The probe ‘Tianwen-1′ -whose meaning in Spanish is’you ask heaven‘- has a weight of five tons and includes a orbiter, a lander and a rover. After entering the Martian orbit, the next step is to change the trajectory of the probe in the next few days to be able to see the Martian poles and, in addition, look for a place where the lander and the vehicle can land on the plain Planitia Utopia a date not yet defined within the next three months (although some voices suggest that the maneuver will take place in early May).

There, the rover will search for remains of present or past life in the huge reservoirs of water in the form of ice that is believed to await below the aforementioned landing site: according to the latest calculations, the extent of that underground ‘frozen sea’ it would be about 300,000 square kilometers and there would be such a volume that the entire hydrographic basin of Spain could be completed 400 times. In addition, the probe will study the geological structure, the environment and the Martian atmosphere, in addition to having half a dozen scientific instruments, including penetrating radar, magnetic field detector, surface compounds, two cameras and a weather station.

Apart from this mission, China has among its plans to establish a space station by 2022 and, shortly thereafter, bring a Chinese astronaut to the Luna. Beijing thus opens a new space race with U.S, that precisely his new rover, ‘Perseverance’, will land this week. A third probe, the ‘Hope’ of Arab Emirates, was embedded in the Martian orbit a day earlier, inaugurating a few historic days in space exploration.

Mars has proven to be a challenging target, as 60% of missions since 1960 (including probes from Russia, Europe, Japan, and India) have ended in failure. Some data that, however, does not discourage China. “The Tianwen-1 mission is the first step for the country to independently carry out interplanetary exploration,” they stated from the China National Space Administration (CNSA). “It will orbit, land and patrol Mars,” they add in a statement.
