The vaccine against Covid-19 residents will be provided free of charge – in Latvia – News

He informed that the government had heard a report prepared by the Ministry of Health on the vaccination strategy against Covid-19. According to the Prime Minister, the news about the vaccine against Covid-19 is promising, as several drug manufacturers have applied to the European Medicines Agency to use vaccines developed by the manufacturers.

Kariņš admitted that vaccination against Covid-19 in Latvia could start in January, however, it is expected that more extensive vaccination could take place six months after receiving the first vaccines. He stressed that the state will buy these vaccines and provide them to the population free of charge.

The Prime Minister called on the public to protect themselves and others until more extensive vaccination opportunities are possible in Latvia.

It has already been reported that vaccination of the Latvian population against Covid-19 in 2021 could cost 26.7 million euros, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has estimated.

These costs would include the payment for Covid-19 vaccines, their delivery, logistics and delivery, and are planned to be covered by the state budget program “Contingency Funds”.

An extraordinary meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers today considered the informative report prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture on the vaccination strategy against Covid-19. In many parts of Europe, countries are already making very specific preparations for vaccination infrastructure so that vaccination against Covid-19 can begin immediately, pending the authorization of the first vaccines. From the information provided by the Latvian Ministry of Health, it is clear that the practical preparations for vaccination are still in progress.

For example, the MoD points out that there is a “need to address” issues related to the procurement of vaccine storage and logistics services, as well as the need to develop new e-health functionality to indicate that a person has been vaccinated and to track vaccination effectiveness.
